This lovely edition of The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott was published by Adam and Charles Black in 1898. The book is bound in half calf over pink cloth boards. The text block edges are marbled and the spine features five raised bands and gilt tooling. There is a school insignia in gilt to the front board - it features a melding of two creatures (unicorn and mermaid/fish) and is known as either a merunicorn or a mermicorn.
The book is in very good condition, with light rubbing to the corners and faint sunning to the spine. There are some tiny chips to the surface of the leather along the spine edges, and discolouration to the boards. The top edge of the text block is dulled and the marbling is hard to make out.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and the pages are clean and bright with only light age toning. There is a written name, address and date to one of the preliminary blank pages. There is a little water staining to the bottom of the first blank pages.
Book measures approximately 18.8cm x 13.3cm x 4.3cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
