This beautiful antique book Women of England features Their Social Duties and Domestic Habits by Mrs Ellis. The book is undated but there is a neatly written inscription dated 1876. So the book is Victorian. The book was originally written in 1839.
The book is bound in dark green leather with marbled paper boards. The spine features four raised bands and beautiful gold gilt decoration. It's in good condition considering it's roughly 150 years old, but it's definitely showing it's age! There is significant wear to the corners, and the leather has worn away to reveal the board underneath. The boards are noticeably worn and scratched. The board edges are worn and peeling. The leather has some scuffs and loss to the surface. The spine ends are worn, and there is light cracking to the leather spine.
Inside, the front hinge is slightly cracked and the first few pages are feeling loose. The pages have noticeable discolouration and foxing but the text remains clear and bright. There are stunning black and white plates which add to the charm of this book.
