This stunning little antique book features Essays of Elia and was published by Nimmo, Hay and Mitchell for the miniature series. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be from the early part of the 20th century (circa 1910).
The book features a limp leather binding and gilt lettering to the spine. Limp leather bindings originated from the medieval era but they became popular again in the late Victorian period. The leather extends over the edge of the book block in what's known as a yapp binding. This makes it very easy for the leather to become damaged and torn around the edges.
The book is in good condition but the leather shows soiling and discolouration. There is a small hole in the leather on the front cover and some light wear to the edges.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully illustrated and the pages show age toning. There is a neatly written name on one of the preliminary pages.
Dimensions approximately 9cm x 6.2cm x 1cm.
The book will be hand wrapped in brown paper and string.
The bubble wrap I use is either oxo-degradable or 100% recyclable; the jiffy bags are recyclable. Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
