This beautiful edition of What Katy Did by Susan Coolidge was published by Blackie and Sons. The book itself isn't dated but these bindings usually dated from the early 20th century - circa 1910. It features a Talwin Morris designed binding - the gilt is striking on the red cloth.
The book is bound in red cloth with gilt decoration to the front board and spine in an art nouveau style. The book is in good condition but the spine is lightly faded and there are some small water marks to the front board. There is light foxing to the text block edges.
Inside, the top of the front free endpaper has been removed. The pages are bright but there is scattered foxing and occasional marking. The book features illustrations by Paul Hardy. Dimensions approximately 19.8cm x 14.8cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
