This little treasure of a book is a glimpse into a different time, being an accounting book from the Edwardian era in which someone kept a record of their expenditures. It's fascinating looking through the book - it features bills for everyday items such as petticoats, taxis and stamps, to the more extravagant purchases such as tickets for the opera and losing money in a game of Bridge!
It's bound in full vellum with a metal clasp. The owner has written their initials on the front with the year 1898, but the accounting book only starts in 1902. It's in very good condition but there is slight bowing to the boards and soiling to the vellum. The back cover has some staining. The text block edges are marbled.
Almost all of the pages have been written in, tallying up expenditures on trips out (mostly to various parts of London). The endpapers are marbled. There is a crack to the gutter but all pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 13.5cm x 8.3cm x 1.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
