This beautiful vintage edition of The Poacher by Captain Marryat was published by Milner and Company. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to have been published circa 1890.
The book is bound in brown cloth with ornate floral decoration to the front board and spine, in black and gilt. It's in good condition but the book does show a forward lean; there is light crushing to the bottom corners and some white marking to the cloth. The spine is very faintly sunned but the gilt is still bright and attractive. Crushing to the spine ends has caused very slight splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is tanning to the free endpapers and stamping to the front endpaper on both sides. The pages show age toning throughout and scattered foxing. There are sporadic cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tight to the binding.
Dimensions approximately 17.2cm x 11.8cm x 2.9cm. The book will be posted hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
