This beautiful set includes of Hypatia by Charles Kingsley and The Caxtons by Lord Lytton. They were published by Service and Paton in the late Victorian era (one book is undated, the other is dated 1897). The books are bound in half calf leather, with camel coloured cloth boards. There are five raised bands to the spine and delicate gilt tooling. The text block edges are marbled. The bindings are more contemporary than the books inside - someone must have had them rebound for their collection. 

The books are in very good condition with just light wear to the corners and spine ends. The boards have some light marking and scuffing, and the spine is more noticeably scuffed. The leather of the spines are a bit tarnished and there is dulling/fading to the top edges of the text blocks. 

Inside, the books feature beautiful marbled endpapers. There are no inscriptions or dedications and the pages just show light age toning and sporadic foxing. The books are filled with striking black and white illustrations - one book by Lancelot Speed and the other by Chris Hammond. 

Dimensions of each volume approximately 19.2cm x 13.3cm.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. 

I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
