This stunning edition of The Call of the Homeland features stunning art nouveau boards in the Glasgow School of Art style. The books were published by Blackie and Son in 1908. They are bound in green cloth with pink and white floral decoration to the front boards and spines. They feature a collection of English verse selected and arranged by R. P. Scott and Katharine T. Wallas.
They are in good condition, but one shows more wear than the other. Book One shows discolouration to the cloth (possibly from past damp damage) and the spine is faded, with crushing to the spine ends. The corners are worn and bumped, and there is bumping to the board edges. Book Two has a brighter cloth binding, with fading to the spine. The text block edges show minor foxing.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned but the rest of the pages show lighter age toning and sporadic foxing. Dimensions of each volume approximately 18.6cm x 13cm x 2.6cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
