This beautiful edition of The Slave Girl of Pompeii by Emily Sarah Holt was published by John F Shaw and Co. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1900.
The book is bound in grey pictorial cloth with beautiful floral decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. It’s in good condition but there is wear to the corners and board edges. The boards show minor marks but the spine shows heavy fading and discolouration. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is cracking to the gutter in places and the text block feels a little shaky. There are no loose pages though. The pages show heavy tanning and scattered foxing throughout. Penned initials to one of the preliminary blank pages.
Dimensions approximately 19.7cm x 13.2cm x 2.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
