This large edition of British and European Butterflies and Moths was published by Ernest Nister. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be early 1900's. Bound in original publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration to the front board and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in good condition but as one can see from the photos, it is showing it's age. There is splitting to the spine ends, causing fraying in the cloth; there is also a hole in the cloth of the spine. The spine edges are rubbed and the spine is darkened. There is wear to the extremities of the books and the corners are particularly worn, and crushing has caused splitting to the cloth revealing the board beneath. The boards show marking and scuffing.
Inside, there is a written inscription to the front free endpaper and the pages show age toning throughout, with scattered foxing and finger print marks. The illustration plates are absolutely stunning.
This is a large and heavy book. Dimensions approximately 29.5cm x 22cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
