This beautiful edition of Onward and Upward in the Garden by Katherine White was published by The Folio Society in 2008. Sadly it no longer has it's slipcase but the cloth is beautifully decorated on the front board.

Katharine Sergeant Angell was hired as a manuscript reader for The New Yorker and within months she became the magazine’s first fiction editor. After years of cultivating fiction, White became fascinated with a new genre: garden writing. In the 1950's, The New Yorker ran a column entitled “Onward and Upward in the Garden,” in which White proclaimed the virtues of garden writing and those unsung authors who produced her “favourite reading matter.” The columns explored the history and literature of gardens, flower arranging, herbalists, among other things. Not long after her death, her husband E. B. White collected and published the series. And just over 40 years later, the Folio Society brought out this beautiful edition.

This book is in very good condition for its age with minimal signs of wear. There is very minor foxing to the text block edges.

Inside there are no inscriptions or dedications, and the pages are clean and bright,

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.

I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
