This beautiful antique edition of Starlight Stories told to Bright Eyes and Listening Ears was written by Fanny Lablache and published by Griffith Farran Okeden and Welsh. The book itself is undated but there is a written inscription inside dated 1896. So the book is late Victorian. It features four illustrations by the well known illustrator Kate Greenaway.
The book is bound in blue cloth with floral decoration to the front board and spine. It's in good condition, but does show a forward lean; there is crushing and wear to the corners. The cloth shows light marking and scuffing, with a bit of rubbing to the gilt. The spine is lightly darkened with crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the front free endpaper and there are some cracks to the gutter in places. The pages show age toning throughout with occasional marking. Some of the page segments feel a little loose.
Dimensions approximately 17.2cm x 11.3cm x 1.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
