This beautiful edition of Seven Times in the Fire A Story of France in Revolution Times by C Maud Battersby was published by the Religious Tract Society. The book itself isn't dated but I'd estimate it to be from the very end of the Victorian era - circa 1890/1900.
The book is bound in orange cloth with stunning floral decoration of poppies to the front board and spine. It's in good condition but the book does show a forward lean and there is light wear to the corners. The cloth shows minor marks and the spine is lightly rubbed. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the free endpapers are tanned but the rest of the pages show lighter age toning. There is sporadic foxing and marking, as well as a splash stain to pages 14 and 15. A previous reader has dog eared some of the top corners which has left creasing behind.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13cm x 2.1cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
