This stunning little edition of The Lover's Language of Flowers with Floral Poetry, Letters Etc written by a Lover of Flowers was published by William Nicholson and Sons. The book isn't dated but I'd estimate it to be mid Victorian (circa 1870's/1880's). The book is bound in brown cloth, with blind stamped decoration in gilt and black to the front board.
It's in good condition but there is some rubbing to the cloth which has removed a little of the surface colour in places. The book shows a slight forward lean and there is light wear to the corners and board edges. There is darkening to the spine and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. There is a small split in the cloth at the back joint.
Inside, the book has 160 pages and the endpapers browned. The text is clean and bright but the pages show light age toning throughout. There is scattered marking and sporadic foxing. There are also some superficial cracks to the gutter in places but no loose pages.
The book features one colour frontispiece and a handful of black and white line drawings within the text. Dimensions approximately 12.7cm x 8cm x 1.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
