This stunning leather bound edition of The Life of Nelson by Robert Southey was published by Blackie and Sons. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to have been published circa 1890/1900.
The book is bound in full calf leather with a blind stamped college insignia in gilt to the front board. The text block edges are marbled and the spine features five raised bands. There is beautiful gilt tooling to the spine, and a leather title label.
It's in good condition for it's age but the book does show a slight forward lean and there is minor wear to the corners. The boards show scuffing and marking, and there is minor chipping to the leather in places. The spine is sunned, with wear to the spine ends and edges, and there are some small stains to the text block edges.
Inside, the book features marbled endpapers and there is a bookseller's sticker to the bottom corner of the front pastedown. The pages are age toned and there is sporadic foxing throughout, but the text is clear and bright. There are no inscriptions or dedications.
The dimensions of the book are approximately 18.4cm x 13.5cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in biodegradable bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
