This beautiful edition of The Legend of the Sanctuary Flowers by George Critchley was published by H R Allenson Limited in 1919. There is quite a poignant Preface to the book, stating that there were so many requests for another book for Children by George Critchley that he planned and wrote these stories - things stalled after WWI broke out, and the book was put on hold. Tragically, Mr Critchley died in 1918 and never saw this book in print. But it was published exactly as he'd written it with no alterations and the preface was written by one his children.
The book is bound in green cloth with stunning floral decoration in an art nouveau style to the front board and spine. It's in very good condition with the main flaw being the fading and discolouration to the spine. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The boards are slightly bowed and there is light bumping to the corners and board edges.
Inside, there is a penned name to the front free endpaper. The pages are clean and bright with occasional foxing. The book dimensions are approximately 19cm x 12.7cm x 2.1cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
