This absolutely stunning edition of Floral Poesy A Book for All Seasons was published by Frederick Warne and Co. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be late Victorian (circa 1890). It's a very striking book and one I've never seen before - despite the fact that I've collected and sold Language of Flowers books for about 8 years. The illuminated colour plates inside make the book even more special.
The book is bound in blue cloth over bevelled boards, with stunning blind stamped decoration in gilt and black to the front board and spine. All edges are gilt. It's in near fine condition, with the most noticeable flaw being the light fading to the spine. There is some light marking and discolouration to the boards, and minor shelf wear to the board edges and corners.
Inside, there is a bookseller's sticker in the top corner of the front pastedown and the very slightest cracking starting to the front hinge. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing throughout, but there are no inscriptions or dedications.
Dimensions approximately 17.5cm x 12.3cm x 2.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough.
