This beautiful vintage edition of The Kitten Pilgrims by RM Ballantyne was published by James Nisbet & Co Ltd. The book is undated but there is a name written inside dated 1902. So the book is either from the very end of the Victorian era or the start of the Edwardian era.
The book is bound in green cloth with stunning floral decoration in gilt to the front board and spine. It's in remarkably good condition for it's age, but there is light marking to the board and some discolouration to the front board. The corners are slightly crushed and the board edges show minor shelf wear. The spine is faintly sunned, with some rubbing and minor loss to the gilt and crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned and there is a pencilled name on the front free endpaper. The front pastedown has a penned name and date. The pages show age toning throughout, with occasional marking and foxing. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound and secure.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
