This beautiful edition of Wonders of the Waters was published by the Religious Tract Society. The book itself is undated but one of the chapter title pages (corals) is dated 1846. There is also a penned inscription dated 1848. The chapters include Coral-Maker, The Animalcule, The Sea-Star, The Lobster and the Fish.
The book is bound in original brown cloth with gilt detail to the front and gilt lettering to the spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition with wear and crushing to the corners. The boards show light discolouration around the edges and marking to the cloth. The spine is faded, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting to the cloth at the head of the spine.
Inside, there is a penned inscription to the front free endpaper and some pencilled numbers to the front pastedown. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing, as well as some staining in places. Please note that someone has used the book to press flowers and petals - this is a lovely addition but the specimens have left offsetting to the paper.
The book features black and white illustrations within the text. Dimensions approximately 13.7cm x 10.9cm x 1.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
