This beautiful edition of Willie and Lucy Abroad by Agnes Giberne was published by the Religious Tract Society. The book itself is undated but there is a penned inscription dated 1873. So the book is mid Victorian. The book is bound in burgundy cloth with stunning blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the boards and spine. All edges gilt. The book has a removable plastic cover.
It's in very good condition with light wear to the corners and a slight forward lean. There is some marking and discolouration to the back board, and the cloth at the top of the back hinge has been repaired with glue. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a penned inscription to the front free endpaper. The pages show light age toning throughout and scattered foxing. There is also occasional creasing and signs of handling. The page segments don't sit flush to the binding and are uneven - despite this, they are tightly bound.
The book features four stunning Kronheim colour plates. Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 14.5cm x 1.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
