This stunning little vintage edition of Goblin Market and Other Poems by Christina Rossetti was published by Collins Clear Type Press. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1910's.
The book features a limp leather binding, with delicate gilt lettering to the spine. Limp leather bindings originated from the medieval era but they became popular again in the late Victorian period. The leather extends over the edge of the book block in what's known as a yapp binding. This makes it very easy for the leather to become damaged and torn around the edges.
The book is in very good condition but does show marking and discolouration to the leather. Light wear to the spine ends.
Inside, the endpapers are illustrated and there is a tiny Christmas card tucked inside with an inscription. Both the frontispiece and illustrated title page are tipped in. It's a small book with a lot of lovely features. Pages are clean and bright. The title page and frontispiece have been reattached with glue.
Dimensions approximately 10.8cm x 7.8cm x 0.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
