This beautiful vintage edition of Lady-Bird's Tea-Party and Other Stories by James Crowther was published by The Sunday School Union. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate dated 1890. So the book is Victorian. It's bound in original blue pictorial cloth with gilt lettering to the front and spine. The book is an example of late-Victorian moral and religious children's literature.
It's in very good condition but there is wear to the corners with a small hole in the cloth near the bottom corner of the back board. The cloth shows minor marking and the spine is sunned and discoloured. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the free endpapers are tanned with age staining and a school stamp to the FFEP. There is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown. The rest of the pages are clean and bright with sporadic foxing and minor marking. The binding thread at the gutter is pulling in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book features a delightful collection of black and white illustrations throughout - some full page and most within the text. Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 13cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
