This pretty edition of The Scottish Chiefs by Jane Porter was published by George Routledge and Sons. The book itself isn't dated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1890's.
The book is bound in green cloth with beautiful blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. It's in good condition but the book does show a pronounced forward lean, and the corners are worn and bumped. The board edges also show bumping and wear, and there is some discolouration to the back board (possibly from past damp). Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the front free endpaper has been removed and there is staining to the front pastedown. The pages show age toning and scattered foxing throughout, with occasional staining. There is creasing to the top corners of the preliminary pages. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
