This beautiful edition of The Bab Ballads by W S Gilbert was published by Macmillan and Co in 1904. So the book is from the Edwardian era.
The book is bound in half leather with two raised bands to the spine and delicate gold gilt decoration.
It's in good condition for it's age, but there is fading and discolouration to the spine and wear to the spine ends - you can see some loss to the surface of the leather here. There are cracks starting to the top of the external hinges but the boards are firmly attached. The boards have some marks, scuffs and shallow scratches and there is wear to the corners.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and the pages show foxing and light discolouration throughout. The book is profusely illustrated, with 350 black and white illustrations by the author.
Dimensions approximately 19.5cm x 13.5cm x 4cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I try to use eco friendly packaging wherever possible. This includes 100% recycled jiffy bags, biodegradable bubble wrap, and paper offcuts from the newspaper industry.
