This beautiful vintage edition of The Romance of Natural History by Philip Henry Gosse was published by James Nisbet & Co. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1900.
The book is bound in original brown cloth with blind stamped detail in black and gilt to the front and spine. It's in very good condition but there is a whitish splash mark to the front and other more minor marks and scuffs to the back board. The spine is slightly darkened and there is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there are no inscriptions and one plate is almost detached. The pages show tanning - particularly to the margins, with sporadic foxing and handling marks. There are just a few black and white illustration plates. Dimensions approximately 18cm x 12.7cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
