This stunning edition published by Hodder and Stoughton features a collection of Fairy Tales from Hans Christian Andersen including the Snow Queen and The Emperor's New Clothes. First edition thus, published in 1911. Priced to reflect one missing plate (the frontispiece).
Produced during the Golden Age of illustration, Edmund Dulac got his first major break as an illustrator when he was asked to illustrate the Bronte Sisters novels in the late Edwardian era. He was defined by his Orientalist and Art Nouveau style.
Externally the book is in very good condition with just light wear and crushing to the corners. The spine is faintly sunned and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, as mentioned above, the frontispiece plate is missing. All other plates are collated and present. The pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing throughout. There is a penned number 1 to the front free endpaper.
Dimensions approximately 28.5cm x 22.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
