This lovely vintage edition of Silas Marner by George Eliot was published by Gawthorn Ltd. The book is undated but there is a neatly written inscription dated 1948.
The book features its original dust jacket which is in very good condition, with some light wear and tear around the edges and corners. Underneath the DJ, the book is bound in red cloth - there is some light marking to the boards and wear to the spine ends.
Inside there is a neatly written inscription on the front free endpaper and a little letter tucked inside - a gentleman thanking his sister for all the kindnesses she has shown his wife. It's a really sweet addition and gives us a glimpse into the previous owner's life. The pages show foxing (particularly to the text block edges) but otherwise the pages are clean and bright with minor toning.
The book dimensions are approximately 19cm x 13cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
