This beautiful antique edition of Burn's Poetical Works was published by Gall and Inglis. The book is undated but there is a written inscription inside dated 1882. So the book is from the mid to late Victorian era.
The book features elaborately decorated boards, with blind stamped decoration and gold gilt to the front board and spine. The front board has an inlaid metal portrait of an angel which is really striking.
The book is in good condition for it's age but there are signs of wear. The corners are worn and crushed with minor splitting and fraying to the cloth. The boards show light marking and soiling and there is bumping to the board edges. The spine is lightly faded and marked, and crushing to the spine ends has caused some minor splitting in the cloth. There is scuffing to the text block edges.
Inside, there is a neatly written name on the reverse of the frontispiece and the pages show age toning and foxing throughout. There are also some sporadic marks.
The book features a handful of black and white illustrations taken from engravings on steel. Each page also has a decorative border which makes it an extra special read.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
