This pretty First Edition of Insect Life by C.A.Ealand was published by A and C Black in 1921 and features original publisher's cloth. This beautiful book features insect and foliage decoration that has quite an art nouveau feel to it.
It's in very good condition with just light wear to the corners and rubbing to the front. The back shows minor marking and scuffing. There is light sunning and rubbing to the spine, with some bleaching to the beige colour over the gilt title. A small bump in the same place has caused an unobtrusive split in the cloth. The spine ends are crushed and there is a little foxing to the text block edges.
Inside, the endpapers are age toned but there are no inscriptions (just an old pencil price opposite the half title page). The pages show scattered foxing, quite heavy to some pages.
The book features a beautiful collection of 74 plates. Collated and complete. 24 are from photographs by the author (in black and white) and 50 are in colour from nature.
Dimensions approximately 22.5cm x 17cm x 5cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
