This beautiful antique book of The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan was published by T C and E C Jack. The book itself isn't dated but there is an inscription dated 1912. So the book is likely to be from just after the Edwardian era. The binding features AA Turbayne's signature of a scarab beetle to the front board so we know it's one of his designs - it's quite an unusual one for him.
The book is bound in maroon cloth with gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It's in good condition for it's age but the corners show light wear and bumping. There is fading to the spine and top of the boards, and the boards show minor marking and scuffing. There is rubbing to the spine edges and crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned and the pages show age toning and foxing throughout. The page edges are rough cut. There is a written inscription on the half title page.
The book features beautiful colour illustration plates by Byam Shaw throughout.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
