This beautiful antique prayer book of Visites au Saint Sacrement et a la Sainte Vierge was published in France in 1878. It features a full calf binding with ornate decoration in gilt, red and blue to the boards. The spine features five raised bands, gilt tooling and a red leather title label. Translated into English, the book is Visits to the Blessed Sacrament and the Blessed Virgin" (or "Our Lady") It features devotional practices of prayer and meditation focusing on the Eucharist (Jesus in the consecrated host) and Mary, mother of Jesus.
It's in very good condition, with the main flaw being some loss to the gilt and blue of the front board and minor chipping to the back board decoration. The corners are lightly worn and bumped. The text block edges are gilt but if you fan them, you can see the original red tint.
Inside, the endpapers feature gold fleur de lis on a blue background and there are gilt inner dentelles. The pages show light age toning but are otherwise clean and bright.
Dimensions approximately 13.5cm x 9cm x 1.7cm. The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
