This beautiful edition of The Fields and The Woodlands Depicted by Painter and Poet was published by Ward Lock and Taylor. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate inside dated 1881. So the book is mid Victorian.
The book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards with stunning decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. It's a striking cloth binding and in near fine condition. There is light wear and fraying to the corners, and minor wear and bumping to the board edges. The book shows a very slight forward lean. The back board shows minor scuffs, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused tiny splits in the cloth.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown as well as some penned writing. There is a school stamp to the top corner of the front free endpaper. The pages show light age toning and occasional foxing but are otherwise clean and bright. There are slight cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book features 24 stunning colour plates. Dimensions approximately 28.2cm x 21.7cm x 2.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
