This stunning First Edition of The Book of Orders of Knighthood and Decorations of Honour of All Nations was published by Hurst and Blackett in 1858. It features facsimile coloured illustrations of the insignia of the various orders. As is often the case with this book, the frontispiece is missing.
It's bound in original blind stamped cloth with gilt to the front and spine. It's in good condition but has experienced some water damage in the past which has caused staining and air bubbling to the cloth. The corners are worn and crushed with slight fraying to the cloth and there are some white spots to the front board. The spine has undergone some restoration, with a new cloth spine inserted under the original spine. The spine is also sunned, with some splitting to the original spine ends.
Inside, the book has new endpapers and there is a small tear to the bottom of the half title page. The pages show age toning and scattered foxing but are otherwise clean and bright.
Dimensions approximately 25.3cm x 17cm x 5.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
