This beautiful edition of Shadows by Mrs OF Walton contains the Scenes and Incidents in the Life of An Old Armchair. It was published by the Religious Tract Society. The book itself isn't dated but there is a written name and date on the verso of the frontispiece.
The book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards with stunning decoration in gilt and green to the front board and spine. All edges are gilt. It's in very good condition but there is wear to the corners with some minor fraying to the cloth. The book shows a slight forward lean and there is light soiling and marking to the boards. The spine is darkened and crushing to the spine ends has caused some minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is slight cracking to the front hinge and the binding thread and staples (which are rusting) can be seen at the gutter in various places through the book. The pages show scattered foxing and occasional marks.
Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 14cm x 2.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
