This stunning antique edition of National Nursery Rhymes Set To Music by J.W.Elliott was published by Novello and Company Ltd. The book isn't dated but I'd estimate it to be from the late Victorian era (circa 1890).
The book is bound in original blue cloth over bevelled boards, with blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the boards and spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition but there is heavy wear to the corners, which has caused splitting to the cloth. The board edges are rubbed and bumped; the boards also show marking and rubbing. There is sunning and discolouration to the spine, with splitting and loss to the spine ends.
Inside, there is an old tape repair to the gutter at the half title page. The pages are all still attached but the text block and page segments feel loose and there are cracks to the gutter throughout. The pages show heavy tanning, with foxing and handling marks throughout. There is a small tear to the bottom of page 31 where the corner has folded upwards.
Dimensions approximately 16.9cm x 18.9cm x 2cm.
The book will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
