This stunning Sixth Edition of Field Friends and Forest Foes by Phillis Brown was published by Cassell and Company. The book itself is undated but there is a written inscription inside dated 1888.
The book is bound in blue cloth over bevelled boards with decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. It's in very good condition with just light wear to the corners and board edges. There are some reddish splash marks to the boards and other more minor marking. The spine is sunned and lightly rubbed, with crushing to the spine ends which has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the front free endpaper and the pages show age toning and scattered foxing (foxing most prominent to preliminary and end pages). There is creasing to the tissue guard for the frontispiece. There are occasional cracks to the gutter but no loose pages. The book is illustrated with striking black and white illustrations.
Dimensions approximately 22.2cm x 17.3cm x 2.4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
