This beautiful Victorian edition of Men Who Were Earnest The Springs of Their Action and Influence was published by James Hogg and Sons. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate dated 1888. It’s a school prize binding, in full calf with a school insignia blind stamped to the front in gilt. The spine has five raised bands, gilt tooling and a leather title label. Text block edges marbled.
It's in good condition but there is wear to the corners and board edges, with minor surface loss to the leather. The boards show some scuffs and marks; there are some small chips to the surface of the leather along the spine edges. The spine is sunned and rubbed and there is dulling to the top edge of the text block.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and there is a presentation plate to the front pastedown (a little bit of this is missing near the centre). The pages show ange toning annd there is foxing to the preliminary annd end pages. The book features a few black and white plates. Dimensions approximately 17.5cm x 12.5cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
