This beautiful, antique edition of Alfred Lord Tennyson's Poetical Works was published by Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. The book itself is undated but these editions usually date to the early 20th century (circa 1910-1915).
The book is half bound in cream vellum with delicate gilt decoration in an art nouveau style to the spine. The boards are bound in pink cloth. It's in good condition but there is marking to the cover and a splash stain to the back board. There is faint soiling to the spine.
Inside, the front free endpaper has been removed and the book opens onto the half title page. This has caused cracking to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound. There is light age toning to the pages, with very occasional foxing; there is also more noticeable tanning to the half title page and tissue guard for the frontispiece.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13cm x 3.4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
