This beautiful vintage edition of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe was published by James Nisbet & Co Ltd. The book is undated but these bindings usually date from the Edwardian era (1902 - 1910). There is a presentation plate dated 1907.
The book is bound in blue cloth with blind stamped art nouveau decoration to the front board and spine. It's in good condition with the most noticeable flaw being the fading and rubbing to the spine. The spine ends are crushed which has caused minor splitting; there is minor marking to the cloth. The text block edges show some foxing.
Inside, the pages show tanning throughout, particularly to the margins, with sporadic foxing. There is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown.
Dimensions approximately 20.2cm x 14cm x 4.4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% oxo-degradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
