This beautiful vintage edition of Ben Hur by Lew Wallace is A Tale of the Time of Our Lord. It was published by James Nisbet & Co Ltd. The book is undated but these bindings usually date from the Edwardian era (I've seen a few with inscriptions dated between 1905 and 1910).
The book is bound in green cloth with stunning art nouveau floral decoration to the front board and spine. It's in good condition for it's age but crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting in the cloth. The spine is lightly sunned and scuffed, and there are some small marks to the boards. The corners are worn and there is toning/foxing to the text block edges.
Inside, there is light age toning to the pages with scattered foxing and marking throughout. There are two purple stamps to the front pastedown. There are some very slight cracks to the gutter in places but the pages feel tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 20cm x 14cm x 4.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
