This stunning antique A Madagascar Carnets De Campagne D'un Officier by Capitaine Tam was published in Paris. The book is undated but after some research, I'd estimate it to be circa 1900. The binding is incredibly striking - bound in red cloth, with stunning gilt and colour decoration to the front. It was produced by L Henry May and G Mantoux, a prominent French publishing house active in Paris during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They were highly respected during the Art Nouveau movement for producing beautifully bound, illustrated literary works, historical texts, and children's books featuring intricate gold leaf detailing and floral motifs.

It's in very good condition with light wear to the corners and board edges. The boards show some marking and discolouration and the spine has lost a bit of it's red colour. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.

Inside, there is a library stamp to the bottom corner of the front free endpaper. The pages show heavy tanning throughout, with sporadic foxing and handling marks. Some of the page segments stick out from the edge of the text block but they are not loose. There are some black and white plates.

Dimensions approximately 287cm x 20cm x 3.5cm.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and ribbon.

I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
