This stunning antique two volume edition of Les Petits Bearnais by Madame Delafaye was published in 1853. They are uniformly bound in black cloth with the most equisite decoration in gilt and raised colours to the boards and spines. All edges gilt.
I think these may be two of the prettiest bindings I've ever had in my shop - the detail is just stunning - they're little works of art. They're in very good condition but there is some wear and loss to the cloth at the corners, as well as chipping to the cloth along the bottom edges of the boards. The boards show light marking and rubbing; the spines are faintly sunned. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, both volumes have a penned name to the front free endpaper and some pencilled numbers to the bottom of the front pastedowns. The pages show scattered foxing and occasional creasing to the top corners (where a previous reader has dog eared pages to mark their place). Both volumes have black and white illustration plates.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 18cm x 11.6cm x 2.6cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
