This beautiful vintage hardback edition of Lays of the Scottish Cavaliers by William Edmondstoune Aytoun was published by William Blackwood and Sons in 1865.
The book is bound in full brown leather with a blind stamped school insignia in gilt to the front board. The spine features gilt decoration and there are five raised bands to the spine. The edges of the text block are beautifully marbled.
It's in good condition but there is scuffing to the boards, and fading around the edges of the boards. The spine is also noticeably faded and rubbed, with wear to the leather. The board edges and corners are worn. There is light fading to the marbling at the top of the text block where it has been exposed to sunlight.
Inside, the book features beautiful marbled endpapers to match the cover. There is a name plate glued to the front pastedown. There is also a neatly written inscription to the first blank page. The pages have some light foxing and marking but the text remains clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 17cm x 12cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
