This beautiful edition of Four Hundred Animal Stories was published by W & R Chambers Ltd. The book itself is undated but there is an inscription dated 1900. So the book is late Victorian.
The book is bound in original red cloth with pictorial and gilt detail to the front and spine. It's in very good condition but there is wear to the corners which has caused slight splitting to the cloth. The boards show minor marking and soiling; the book has a slight forward lean. The spine is sunned whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting to the cloth,
Inside, there are two penned inscriptions to the front free endpaper - one has been crossed out. The pages show age toning throughout with occasional marking and minor staining. There are some cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound. The book features beautiful black and white illustrations.
Dimensions approximately 18.8cm x 13.3cm x 3.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
