This stunning quarter leather bound edition of John Halifax, Gentleman by Mrs Craik was published by The Gresham Publishing Company. The book is undated, but Gresham were known to bring out a range of books in this particular binding circa 1900. The spine features a striking art deco design in gilt, originally created by Talwin Morris.
The book is in very good condition with light wear to the corners and spine ends which has caused minor splitting. There is minor marking to the boards and foxing to the text block edges. The spine is lightly sunned with chipping to the leather at the spine ends.
Inside, the free endpapers are tanned and the pages show scattered foxing throughout. The book features beautiful black and white plates by John H Bacon.

All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
