This beautiful vintage edition of Stories of the Cathedral Cities of England by Emma Marshall was published by James Nisbet & Co. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate dated 1896. So the book is likely late Victorian.
The book is bound in original red pictorial cloth with gilt to the front and spine. It's in good condition but the spine is faded and there is fading around the edges of the boards. There is minor marking to the cloth and crushing to the spine has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The text block edges show foxing.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and there is slight cracking to the front hinge. The pages show age toning and scattered foxing throughout, with the age toning being heaviest in the margins. There are black and white illustration plates. Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.6cm x 3.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
