This lovely little edition of Thrifty Housekeeping by Florence Stacpoole was first published by Walter Scott in 1898. This edition is undated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1900. It was part of the Every Day Help series and is bound in full leather, with gilt lettering to the front.
It features all sorts of thrifty advice to help housewives manage the household budget - from buying second hand furniture, to eating food in season. There's legal advice on managing servants and how to wait on people at the dinner table.
It's in very good condition but the leather does show some scuffs and marks. There is light wear and crushing to the corners and spine ends - this has caused minor splitting and loss to the leather at the spine ends. The spine is sunned.
Inside, there is a name and date in pen to the front free endpaper and the pages are clean and bright with only occasional foxing. The binding thread is visible at the gutter in places, with superficial cracking to the gutter - the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 15.1cm x 10.8cm x 1.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
