This beautiful antique edition of Hardy Perennials and Old Fashioned Garden Flowers by John Wood was published by L Upcott Gill in 1884. The book is bound in green cloth with pictorial decoration of flowers to the front. It's in good condition but there is some damp damage which has caused light bleaching to the cloth. There is crushing to the corners and the spine is darkened and rubbed - the lettering is almost illegible. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a pencilled name on the FFEP and two penned inscriptions to the verso of the frontispiece. Opposite the half title page, there is a garden plan - and it's not a small garden! It's a big one. The writing is hard to read because it's so small but someone meticulously planned the garden. The pages show light age toning and there is heavy age toning to the preliminary and end pages.
The book is illustrated with black and white illustrations within the text. Dimensions approximately 19.1cm x 13.5cm x 2.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
