This stunning edition of The Longfellow Birthday Book was published by George Routledge and Sons in 1883. So the book is over 140 years old.
The book is bound in brown cloth over bevelled boards, with pretty floral decoration and gilt to the front board. It's in good condition for it's age but there is some wear to the corners and the boards are lightly marked and bumped. There is some loss to the floral decoration on the front board. The spine edges are rubbed and the spine is slightly darkened, with crushing to the spine ends which has caused very minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the reverse of the front free endpaper and some of the birthday slots have been filled in with names. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing, with occasional creases to some of the pages. There are superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 12.7cm x 10cm x 2.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
