This beautiful antique edition of Hardy Perennials and Old Fashioned Garden Flowers by John Wood was published by L Upcott Gill. The title page of the book is undated but there is a testimonial on an advertisement sheet dated 1897. So the book is likely to be from the very end of the Victorian era.
The book is bound in green cloth with pictorial decoration of leaves to the front board and spine. It's a striking binding and one that's come out of my personal collection! It's in good condition for it's age, but the corners show some wear and minor crushing. There is light shelf wear to the board edges and the spine edges are rubbed. The spine shows some small marks and there are a few small chips to the decoration. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there are advertisement pages to the front and back and there's a neatly written name on the half title page. The pages show light age toning and occasional foxing but are remarkably clean and bright for their age.
The book is profusely illustrated with black and white illustrations.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13cm x 2.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
